He is working on tailoring software development processes using software risk management techniques. He gave a keynote address at the SEI Risk Management Conference in April 1997, and was a guest lecturer on the topic at City University, London in March 1998. He is a member of the Airlie Software Council, a group of industry consultants, advising the DoD on best practices for software development and acquisition.

Tim is co-author with Tom DeMarco of the immensely popular course sequences, Software Risk Management, Achieving Best in Class: Leading, Managing and Coaching the Modern Software Organization, and Controlling Software Projects: Management, Measurement, and Estimation.

Tim Lister and Tom DeMarco are also co-editors of Software State-of -the-Art: Selected Papers, a collection of 31 of the best papers on software published in the 1980's (Dorset House, 1990). The two partners have also produced a video entitled Productive Teams, available through Dorset House.

Tim Lister has over 25 years of professional software development experience. Before the formation of the Atlantic Systems Guild, he worked at Yourdon Inc. from 1975 to 1983. At Yourdon he was an Executive Vice President and Fellow, in charge of all instructor/consultants, the technical content of all courses, and the quality of all consultations.

Conference 2000 in Munich Germany.   Mr. Lister is  the keynote speaker for the Software Management/Applications of Software Measurement Conference in Anaheim California Feb 11-15, 2002.

Risk Management and Value Assessment for Product Discrimination

We should not talk about efficiency (productivity and quality) until we can demonstrate effectiveness - building only valuable products. In the 90ís we got fixated on improving the wrong process, the development process. The one process that matters far above that one is the process that determines which projects are born, and what shape they take.

It is only after an evaluation of risk and opportunity, and value that we can then discuss quality in a meaningful way. When looking at value, some projects that your organization has considered less than acceptable shine as great successes.

In this talk Tim Lister will point out a new way to evaluate projects and their products.
